5G networks have the potential to revolutionize the transportation and logistics industry by improving efficiency, safety and customer experience. By leveraging 5G capabilities, companies in this sector can become more competitive and innovative
• A complete 5G system is installed in the port area consisting of Core 5G, radio systems (gNB) to cover the port area and the surrounding water. Data services are activated (interconnection with selected Navy intranet services), video, PTT VONR with interconnection at the IP-PABX.
• Sensors and cameras are deployed in the port area as well as some mobile terminals for VoLTE / NR and PTT communications.
• On board some ships, interconnection with the interconnected CPEs are installed for port's 5G network and to the vessel's intranet for connection of data services already present and / or remote control of land services.
• The added system does not affect the functionality of the connections external to the ship already active (sat and fiber).
• Demonstrates the usability of the services in the port area and on board the ship with particular attention to the evaluation of bandwidth capacity, service resilience and latency.
• Services are also available for users equipped with portable devices (smartphones) such as personnel geolocation, one-to-many multimedia communications and one-to-one audio / video communications.
The type of services to be implemented & carried out is similar to the previous case with the exception of interconnections to services not present on board the ship.
Virtual or augmented reality solutions can also be experimented using the broadband and low latency of 5G services on board the nearby ship, and displayed on the support vessel for maintenance and / or requests for remote technical advice.
5G enables real-time communication between aircraft, control towers and ground staff. This allows better coordination in aircraft arrival and departure schedules, reduces waiting times, and increases the efficiency of runway use.
The use of 5G networks at airports has many very important advantages in improving the quality of public services, especially in terms of speed, security and convenience. Here are some reasons why 5G is critical for airports:
1. Data Speed and Capacity
5G networks offer much higher data transfer speeds compared to 4G. This allows various services at the airport, such as transferring passenger data, checking baggage, and processing transactions at shops or restaurants, to be carried out more quickly. For example, passengers can access real-time flight information without experiencing delays.
2. Security Improvements
Security is a top priority at airports. 5G networks enable the operation of technologies such as surveillance cameras with advanced analytical capabilities to detect threats more effectively and in real-time. For example, intelligent monitoring systems can automatically scan for suspicious behavior or passenger identity, increasing security.
3. Better Real-Time Service
With 5G networks, applications and systems that require real-time data—such as baggage tracking, passenger traffic management, and flight notifications—can work more efficiently. Passengers can also receive up-to-date information about gate changes or flight schedules directly to their devices, reducing confusion and improving the experience.
4. Convenience for Users
The 5G network supports more stable and faster connectivity, allowing passengers to stay connected to the internet without interruption, whether for work, entertainment or communication. This is especially important in areas with lots of people and devices, such as airports that are often crowded.
5. Automation and Innovation
The use of 5G-based technologies allows the implementation of more automated systems at airports, such as automatic check-in, facial recognition for security, and autonomous vehicles for the transport of passengers or goods. This can reduce waiting times and increase operational efficiency.
6. Infrastructure Optimization
5G enables airport infrastructure to be smarter and more responsive. For example, energy management can be more efficient with a system that can monitor and regulate energy consumption in real-time based on data collected from connected sensors.
With the implementation of the 5G network, the railway sector can provide services that are faster, safer and more easily accessible to the public. More efficient rail systems, better passenger experiences, and improved safety and maintenance can be achieved by leveraging the advanced capabilities offered by 5G. This network enables wider integration of smart technology, creating a transportation system that is more modern and responsive to society’s needs.
The use of 5G networks in the railway sector is very important to increase efficiency, speed, safety and comfort for users and operations. Here are some reasons why 5G is critical for rail services in various fields:
1. Real-Time Speed and Connection
5G networks provide very high speeds, enabling real-time communication between various components in the railway system, such as between trains, control centers and monitoring systems. This ensures that information regarding train speed, location and condition can be processed quickly. This is very important to optimize train traffic management and improve passenger experience.
2. Improved Security
Safety is a top priority in rail services. With 5G, advanced technologies such as monitoring systems and smart sensors can operate more efficiently, detecting potential threats or intrusions quickly and precisely. For example, 5G enables the use of automatic braking systems that can avoid accidents or collisions on railway lines. Additionally, monitoring and communication with emergency systems can be done in seconds, speeding response to emergencies.
3. Predictive Maintenance and Automation Systems
With 5G networks, trains and rail infrastructure can be equipped with sensors that transmit real-time data to maintenance centers. This technology enables the implementation of predictive maintenance, namely analyzing data to predict failures before they occur, thereby reducing the risk of operational disruption. This also helps in reducing maintenance costs and improving the reliability of train services.
4. Better Passenger Experience
The 5G network allows passengers to stay connected to the internet at high speed during travel, which greatly increases comfort, both for work, entertainment and communication. On board the train, passengers can access various services, such as on-the-go entertainment or real-time information regarding their journey (estimated arrival time, schedule changes, etc.). This increases customer satisfaction.
5. More efficient train control system
The 5G network enables a more efficient automation-based train control system, such as a more responsive and dynamic track management system. This system can optimize train routes and speeds automatically based on traffic conditions and line density, thereby reducing delays and increasing operational efficiency.
6. Development of Smart Transportation and Integrated Mobility
5G enables the integration of trains with a wider range of intelligent transportation systems, such as autonomous vehicles, location-based applications, and various other modes of transportation. This makes it easier for passengers to plan their trips in a better and more integrated manner. For example, passengers can easily arrange travel using trains and other modes of transportation, such as buses or electric bicycles, with real-time information available via mobile apps.
7. Operational Efficiency and Energy Savings
5G networks enable operational managers to monitor and manage systems more efficiently, reducing waste and ensuring optimal use of resources. 5G-based intelligent systems can regulate train speed settings, energy consumption and power distribution throughout the system, which can save energy and reduce carbon emissions.
8. Fast Emergency Services
In emergency situations, such as accidents or damage to infrastructure, speed in sending data and getting a response is critical. With 5G, emergency communications can be carried out more quickly and precisely between trains, field officers and the control center, so that responses can be faster and more effective, reducing the potential for danger to passengers.
9. Improve Traffic Management and Passenger Density
5G enables better management of rail traffic. With real-time data on the number of passengers and train locations, the system can manage train arrivals and departures more efficiently. This can also help reduce passenger density at stations and on trains, and avoid crowding that could endanger comfort and safety
5G networks have the potential to revolutionize the transportation and logistics industry by improving efficiency, safety and customer experience. By leveraging 5G capabilities, companies in this sector can become more competitive and innovative
